The Regional Directors’ Team (RDT) for the Arab States and MENA region works closely to address development and humanitarian issues in striving to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and beyond in the region. The work of the RDT is guided by the
Triennial Comprehensive Policy Reviews (TCPRs), the Global RDT meetings and the
Management and Accountability paper.
Overall, the RDT's work focuses on providing UN Country Teams (UNCTs) with strategic guidance and policy advice, and coherent, coordinated and timely technical support through the established inter-agency Quality Support and Assurance mechanism and oversight through the
RC/UNCT Performance Appraisal system.
Information on the RDTs work can be found in the annual workplan and includes, among others, developing strategic frameworks for addressing key challenges in the region with the current priorities being:
1) Youth,
2) The nexus of Climate Change and Food Security, and
3) The role of the UN in Middle-Income Countries (MICs).
Other areas of focus include Promotion of the UN Reform Process, including lessons learned from the "One UN" pilot countries; Quality Assurance of UNDAFs and CPDs; Promotion of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs); and Oversight through the Performance Appraisal process and strengthened coordination among the agencies. The RDT meets on a regular basis and their work is supported by the RDT Secretariat, which ensures implementation and follow up to RDT decisions.
